Influences

If I were ever to start a singing career or try to be a myspace/you tube sensation, this woman would be listed in the "Influences" section. Bethany Dillon. Not only can this girl sing with passion but with purpose. You can see from her lyrics that her songs are a response to the Scriptures.

She's singing about the compassionate heart of God. The God of the Bible who is righteous enough to reach down, come down to earth in human form and yet still be righteous and holy. Jesus- who dined with tax collectors, prostitutes, and those who were considered poor and despised on this earth.

It is tempting to say, "Well, I am not a thief, whore, or poor person. " The truth, the amazing truth, is that we are all paupers before God. We are all commit sin and thus a holy and righteous God should want to have nothing to do with us. BUT as the song says, "Still you sent your Son for us. You are on our side." Even though full of sin, God loves us and showed his love by giving Jesus, his Son, to die on the cross and take the punishment for our sins. Thief, beggar, prostitute, CEO, college student, child, everyone.

For me the most striking thing is the truth that
God could have done nothing (Note: Even if he did nothing--did not send Jesus--He would still have been a righteous, gracious, and loving God)
but still He sent His Son for us.
